Clara Darrason is pleased to present the first solo show of French artist Sarah Bastide. In Re/collection Bastide explores the significance of her memories once removed from the intimate sphere. The exhibition is set up in a Chelsea storage unit which evokes the interstices of the artist’s attic memories and conveys the close and odd atmosphere of a cabinet of curiosity. This unconventional and confined space engages the voyeuristic self-consciousness of the visitors who scrutinize the artist’s souvenirs. In doing so, the viewers are prompted to recollect their own history and to reflect upon the remembrance of events and feelings praised, altered, appropriated or forgotten over time.
